According to a recent study, 48% of all U.S. hospitals have had to disconnect their networks in the last six months because of a ransomware attack, so it's clear that healthcare providers have a duty to protect themselves. Ricardo “Rick” Bueno, data security expert enabling government special communications, and Rick Bryant, Healthcare Chief Technical Officer at Veritas, will join Zones executives Kim Chau, John Shaffer, and Andrew Reese for an in-depth discussion of what healthcare organizations can do to better secure their people, their devices, and their data.

John Shaffer is the Vice President of Healthcare Sales at Zones. He is an accomplished Global Sales and Marketing Executive with extensive experience in Enterprise Software & SaaS business models. John's tenure includes 25 years of experience in building sales teams, new business development, account management, sales operations, managing staff, and reorganizing sales and marketing groups. He has experienced success in companies ranging from start-up (pre-revenue) to annual revenue of more than $2B.
Kim Chau
VP & GM Marketing, Zones
Kim is the Vice President and General Manager at Zones, LLC. As head of marketing, she is responsible for driving Zones' overall marketing strategy to develop the brand, generate demand for Zones' solutions, and collaborate with ecosystem partners to grow the pipeline and contribute to sales. She comes to Zones with over 20 years of scaling business, leading high-performance global teams, driving revenue growth, and delivering on technology adoption across channels and nascent markets.
Before joining Zones, Kim served as Senior Director for Sierra Wireless, Vice President for PCS, and Director for Microsoft, AT&T, and Ericsson. Her results included brand development, product marketing, channel partner management, and go-to-market (GTM) across B2B in the IT industry. She launched global product lines across NA/LATAM, EMEA, China, and APAC. Managed multimillion budget and international teams. Received industry recognition for MD&M Most Innovative Award and Spark Design Semi-Finalist.
She is passionate about building a brand and developing marketing programs leveraging a myriad of marketing strategies to drive execution excellence. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Texas A&M University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from California Southern University, and a Master Certification in marketing strategy for executives from Cornell University. She is also a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) candidate.
Andrew Reese
Chief Architect, Security OCTO, Zones
Andrew is a security and compliance subject matter expert with extensive hands-on experience measuring, assessing, designing, implementing, improving, and managing information security management systems (ISMS) as well as cybersecurity programs. He is well versed in aligning organizational controls with legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements as well as business goals and objectives. Andrew also has consulting experience working with hundreds of organizations of all sizes and verticals, using industry best practices.
Rick Bryant

Rick is the Healthcare Chief Technical Officer at Veritas. In this role, he leads initiatives to serve the healthcare information technology industry through technology excellence and process solutions. Rick brings over 25 years of industry experience, with roles spanning from infrastructure management to chief information security officer to chief technical officer, where he was responsible for architecting and implementing EMR systems.
Previous positions include healthcare practice manager and national healthcare architect at Symantec, chief information security and chief technical officer at Texas Children's Hospital, and executive manager of infrastructure at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Richardo Bueno
Quantum-Secure Data Expert & Innovator
Ricardo (Rick) Bueno is a seasoned technical executive with 43 years of operational experience supporting commercial, defense, intelligence, and special operations communities. Rick currently serves as president, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board at Cyber Reliant Corp, where he leads the business and technical vision for quantum secure data protection. Prior to founding Cyber Reliant, Rick served with distinction in the U.S. Air Force, and also as a civilian contractor with an operational emphasis in counter-threat finance, intelligence operations, and digital surveillance and exploitation. His past experience includes special consultant to the U.S. Department of Justice, a role at the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center, chief security engineer for the National Security Agency High Assurance Platform Program, chief strategic architect for the director of national security, and National Security Agency Afghan mission manager for NATO Special Operations Forces.
Rick founded Cyber Reliant after departing Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT). He is responsible for the company’s overall business and technical strategy positioning for commercial, defense, and special forces domains. Rick currently serves as a board advisor for Utica College’s Economic Crime and Cyber Security Institute (https://www.ecii.edu/about-us/board-of-advisors/), where he assists in the development of cybersecurity graduate programs, and for the Association for Data and Cyber Governance (www.adcg.org), where he helps develop cybersecurity and data governance standards for both commercial and government clients.

Mark Noble is the Chief Operating Officer at ViTel Net where he brings over 25 years of experience in telecommunications, visual collaboration, and healthcare spaces. Over the past decade, he has worked closely with healthcare providers, payers, and industry partners to address the challenges associated with the shift to accountable care models and the growing gap between the supply of specialty care providers and the expanding population of patients requiring care. His vision and passion are making the highest quality care available to every patient in need at the lowest cost, regardless of the physical location of the provider and patient through telehealth programs that integrate seamlessly with clinical operations.
Prior to joining ViTelNet, Mark set the strategy for and lead Vidyo’s healthcare practice as Vice President of Telehealth Business Development. Under his leadership, Vidyo enjoyed significant market penetration and growth with over 300 healthcare systems, representing more than 2500 hospitals deploying the solution for synchronous telehealth consultations.
Mark shares his domain expertise in telemedicine solutions to increase clinician knowledge of best practices and has led training sessions for institutions, such as the American College of Surgeons. Mark earned his BSEE from Rutgers College of Engineering and an MBA from Rutgers Graduate School of Management.
Mark joined ViTel Net because he believes the vCareCommand platform can uniquely address the challenges he has heard time and again from healthcare systems, regarding access to patient data, centralized management of resources, and workflow that matches in-person practice for telehealth across the entire continuum of care.

In these roles with the American Cancer Society, Lowen Corporation, Gregory Graphics, as well as Network Management Group, Alan has developed expertise in many Service Delivery areas critical to the success of our Cloud & Datacenter growth mission at Zones.
Alan has been a Senior Systems Engineer at Zones since May of 2018 and has specialized in the Cloud, Hybrid Cloud, and Datacenter spaces. Prior to joining Zones, Alan was a Senior Systems Engineer/Integrator for Network Management Group, Inc. In this role, he was responsible for many facets of pre-sales, physical delivery, and Managed Services for predominantly CPA firms and banks. For almost four years, Alan was also an integral force in driving pre-sales growth initiatives and supporting an internal Managed Services team with 24/7 clients. The company saw a close rate of nearly 70% of deals, where they were averaging 20-25% close rate prior.
Alan, his wife, and adult daughter live a beach life, only minutes from the Gulf of Mexico near Pensacola, Florida. He has five daughters, a son, and two grandsons. He is eager to share his knowledge, real-world experiences, and technical expertise to help Zones create partnerships with our clients and to create managed services engagements!

Linda oversees all logistics, integrations, and project management offices at Zones. Her responsibilities include managing five Zones-owned Logistics and Integration Solution Centers, 13 Virtual Solution Centers via 3PL, and all Zones global transportation, including imports and exports. Linda joined Zones in 2002 and has held various supply chain operations positions ever since. Prior to joining Zones, she served as general manager of operations at The Woodfield Group and as the director of procurement at Valcom. Linda holds an undergraduate degree in IT operations.

Robert McGowen
Vice President & General Manager Healthcare Sales, Zones
Robert McGowen currently leads the Corporate Inside and Healthcare business units for Zones. McGowen joined Zones in 2000 and has held various senior leadership roles throughout his tenure including providing onsite leadership for sales and operations for a major Fortune 50 customer.
In addition to Zones, he has held leadership roles with several multibillion-dollar IT companies. McGowen holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University.
Richard Bakalar, M.D.
Dr. Richard Bakalar has over 35 years of clinical, telehealth, medical informatics, and healthcare executive leadership experience. Richard has a medical license in Maryland and was board certified in internal medicine and nuclear medicine. He has a prior radiology faculty appointment from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine in Bethesda, Md.
During his military service in the U.S. Navy, Richard was the Navy Surgeon General's first Special Assistant for Telemedicine, and he established the Navy's operational Global Telemedicine Network. This organization supported digital radiology and 12 other medical specialties for 28 Navy ships, three U.S. Navy medical centers, and 23 Naval hospitals and clinics worldwide. Richard was also a naval flight surgeon assigned to Marine One, HMX-1's flight squadron, supporting President Ronald Reagan's White House.
In his current position at ViTel Net, Richard advises the CEO and his leadership team on strategy for solution design and clinical integration. In addition, he helps clients achieve enhanced business value through improving connected care, often by adopting telehealth services across healthcare settings enabled by ViTel Net's vCareCommand collaboration platform, vCareNet, and its multi-specialty medical imaging cloud.
Richard's prior leadership positions and achievements:
KPMG, LLP – U.S. physician consultant in KPMG's Global Healthcare Center of Excellence, and the healthcare advisory practice leader for virtual care, both in the U.S. and internationally. Richard advised clients on connected care program design and evidence-based telehealth services adopted by medical providers, telecommunications companies, retail health, and medical device companies, in the U.S. and internationally. He drove results by tapping into leading telehealth practices, market readiness, shared services, innovative data analytics, and consumer engagement solutions.
Microsoft – physician executive. Richard was responsible for provider communications and clinical use case development in the U.S. and Canada. He was a senior clinical advisor in Microsoft's Health Solutions Group (HSG), which delivered innovative solutions to hospitals and health systems built on its enterprise Amalga and consumer HealthVault clinical intelligence platforms.
IBM – chief medical officer for IBM's healthcare solutions team. Richard was the senior medical advisor to the U.S. and Canadian healthcare global business services and sales teams, which focused on clinical transformation, optimized health IT infrastructure, regional medical imaging archive solutions, and health analytics strategies within patient-centric networks.
American Telemedicine Association (ATA) – president and chairman of the ATA's Standards and Guidelines Committee. Richard is an ATA College Fellow and a member of both the ATA's Program and Education Committee and the editorial review board for the telemedicine and eHealth journal.
